It is amazing to me the things I have taken for granted in my life. For instance, I just assumed that all houses came with shelves. It did not occur to me that this was something I would have to do. Well, guess what, after all the workers left and I started to unpack I realized I had no shelves to put anything on. I am now and expert on shelves. I decided to put shelves in the kitchen rather than cabinets because I can never remember where I put my own dishes. These shelves had to be super heavy so I used 2X10s and 2X8s. I am happy to say they turned out great.

Closet shelves did not have to be quite so strong so I went with the closet maid metal shelves that you hang on the wall. Those of you who know me well understand that paying attention to details is not my strongest characteristic. Well, I learned quickly to look closely at the picture on the front of the box before buying the shelves. Some types attach directly to the wall with brackets and some have to have those up and down bars that you attach the brackets to. Also some types only attach to one wall and others have to have 3 walls. They all have their special attaching devices and they don’t mix and match well. Dealing with this required some significant pre planning on my part and some even more significant improvising when my planning did not work out.

The good news is that I now have my, kitchen, bathroom, feed room, utility room, tack room and office shelves up. Now if I can just get the last of my boxes unpacked I will be good to go. Madalyn

PS Some might ask about book shelves. I brought many book shelves with me, thank heavens, but they are unfortunately all full of books.
